Melvin the Machine

In full he is called Melvin the Magical Mixed Media Machine, but he also listen to the short version Melvin the Machine. As long as you picture yourself a machine that is deliberately overconstructed in such a way that it carries out a very simple task in an extremely complicated way, often in the form of a chain reaction. It makes use of twitter and Facebook, and is being filmed and photographed as if it were a superstar. Operated by two laboratory assistants/professors, the machine will be made ready for use, with the process being restarted over and over again.

designteam: HEYHEYHEY - Frank Winnubst - Bas van Raay - Bart Bekker - Kor Smeenge - Jeroen Hezemans - The Cre8ion.Lab: Bas van Hout - Loek Jurres - Jorg van Keulen - Colin Raaijmakers - Joran Quinten - Kal Konings

La Bolleur Balloon Animals

This time we blew it.

This summer the city of Eindhoven asked La Bolleur to make something happen in the city centre. It was a nice opportunity to realize an idea that had been going through our heads for a while already. We upscaled balloon animals to monstrous proportions that were hardly manageable. Making it happen turned out to be as much fun as the end result.

Manufractals

a research about molding in elastic molds. Frank experiments with different materials and lets himself be surprised by the result. In this way he discovered that pouring epoxy resin into balloons leads to preposterous shapes. This inspired him to make a flexible mould that continued to deliver new and exciting forms. By joining the castings to each other with connecting pieces, they can endlessly be built.

Manufractals was on display from 27th march - 12th september 2010 at the exhibition KLEUR! / COLOR! (Designhuis, Eindhoven)

Springtime

Chairs that are comfortable to sit in usually have an upholstered construction involving springs. A research about the various kinds of springs created an optimum seating comfort, through this way the function determined the form. To ensure that the springs would not feel cold and hard, a knitted cover is added on the top layer.

Springtime is currently exhibited at Spazio Rossana Orlandi (Via Matteo Bandello 14-16 / Milan)

1 Pallet kitchen

One pallet kitchen is a stackable kitchen made from wood chips and natural resin. Most kitchens are made from cheap pressed wood (chipboard) and laminate. Our aim is to show the quality of pressed wood by using the material as a three dimensional shape. This durable kitchen is easy to assemble requiring no glue or screws. Our design process is driven by function, where the function becomes the construction. one pallet kitchen'sstackable nature makes it a flexible kitchen for a flexible
Lifestyle.

Materials: woodchips, resin, multiplex plywood, white paint.
